Hi all, here are some events, websites, music, and tidbits I’ve come across lately:
Whereby.us is an “open community group that brainstorms, designs, and executes small projects that make our ridiculous, wonderful city a better place to live and play.” We are SO down with that. Visit their site to see their first six projects.
Hear “6 Feet Beneath The Moon”, the brilliant new album by UK teenager Archy Marshall aka King Krule via NPR Music. RIYL Billy Bragg, Elvis Costello, The Clash, The xx (it’ll make sense once you hear it). We’ll have the vinyl and CD at Sweat when it comes out next week.
TEDXMIA 2013 is happening on Thursday, October 24th at the Arsht Center. The theme is “Be The Difference” and tickets are $75 each for general admission.
Local musician and journalist Jason “Fitzroy” Jeffers is working on a short film about the “noble, mysterious, and slowly vanishing martial art of Haitian Machete Fencing“. Visit his GoFundMe page to learn more and/or contribute to the film.
Buzzfeed’s list of the “27 Breathtaking Record Stores You Have to Shop at Before You Die”. I’ve been to a few on the list, and one day Sweat will make it on there, dammit! Thanks Mr. Drake for the link.
More things to listen to:
NO HITS RADIO
Marco Argiro (formerly of local rockers Le Mood) has a new upbeat acoustic album and track called “Love”
GAS (a band from Barcelona singing entirely in Chinese!)
Miami’s own Klangbox – and on a related note, Nightdrive are bringing the great CHICO MANN to Will Call this Friday night along with Afrobeta! Should be a fantastic show.
Have a great week y’all!
