This Just In: Rings Around The World

I feel like this isn’t the first time I’ve used a Super Furry Animals reference in a “This Just In” headline. Oh well, Super Furries freakin’ rule! Let’s take a trip around the world with some selections from India, Africa and Peru. And as usual, some new titles, reissues and restocks are below, including reissues of a couple essential Stereolab albums!!!

Kesrabai Kerkar – ST LP
“One of the greatest Indian classical vocalists of all time. Kesarbai Kerkar rose up from the bottom of the caste system in India to become one of the countries most respected vocalists. These recordings from 1947 – 1953 are beautiful ragas not to be missed. First LP issue of her material to be available in the US. A real treasure for fans of our Abdul Karim Khan & Pandit Prannath releases. Beautiful detailed liner notes by Ian Nagoski complete with photographs & sacred Tantra art. Old school ‘tip on’ cover.” –Mississippi Records/Canary Records

Various – Gozalo! Vol. 1 2LP
“2013 repress, originally released in 2007. After a very long time researching the archives of the most important record labels of Peru, we present volume one of Gozalo! (‘enjoy it!’) a collection of this country’s best artists during the ’60s and ’70s. Peru, surely not a heavyweight champion of well-known music, at least in Europe or North America, was the home to so many exciting bands and artists. Names like Charlie Palomares, Mario Allison, Lucho Macedo, Al Valdez, Ñico Estrada, Los Hiton’s and many more, who were experimenting with ‘foreign’ sounds and rhythms such as jazz, pop, boogaloo and soul, and giving them their very own unique Peruvian flavor. Complete with very detailed and explanatory liner notes and cover art by Pablo Iglesias (from the mandatory Latin art book Cocinando!).”-VampiSoul

Alemayehu Eshete – ST LP:
“Known by some as the Ethiopian Elvis, Alemayehu Eshete was the ultimate modernist. His music combined R&B, Ethiopian groove, soul, rock n’ roll & traditional Ethiopian music to create something truly unique. This LP features a collection of his 45’s recorded between 1967 & 1974. Back to back true classics. The 4th in our continuing series of releases culled from the monumental Ethiopiques series. Edition of 2,000 copies.” –Mississippi Records
