This Just In: Aural Amusement

Here are some albums we’re stoked about this week. There’s also a lot of other new stuff that you’ll be stoked on too. Stop in and see…

Evangelista – In Animal Tongue 180g LP:
Evangelista’s new album continues to broaden the sonic canvas against which [Carla] Bozulich deploys her distinctive voice and lyricism. In Animal Tongue reflects Bozulich’s escape from her Los Angeles home base and an increasingly nomadic existence in the last couple of years, devoted in equal parts to collaboration and improvisation with a wide range of players in diverse contexts… In Animal Tongue was largely written and recorded by Bozulich, in a variety of locations, driven (in Carla’s words) ‘by the forces of rocks, evolution, geology, drugs, boxing, everything-ology and dead stuff that makes the dirt and cement and the tress grow…’ Through it all, Bozulich’s powerfully adventurous voice weaves vital, semi-improvisatory melodies of gasping, restrained intensity, brooding incantation and a rich half-whispered alto. In Animal Tongue is a superb addition to Bozulich’s canon and as original a voice as can be found at the current nexus of punk, poetry, and experimental music.” -Constellation

Jens Lekman – An Argument With Myself 12”/CD EP:
A 17-minute, tropical-pop journey to tide fans over until Jens Lekman’s next full-length. The songs on An Argument With Myself echo the stumbling storytelling of tracks from 2007’s Night Falls Over Kortedala but feature new locales for Lekman’s amusingly neurotic interpersonal interactions and subsequent analysis. He claims these tracks don’t “fit” quite right with the material on the forthcoming full-length, but regardless, they create an amusing listening experience. -MLE

Trans Am – Futureworld LP (2011 Remaster):
“After being out of print on vinyl for many years we are happy to offer a brand new 2011 re-mastered and re-pressed vinyl version of this all time classic Trans Am release! SAE Mastering has re-mastered the album and the LP is offered in a high gloss LP jacket with high gloss inner sleeve and for the first time a download card! 1. Coming by for my lunch break. Trans Am will most likely be mine (to think those guys offered me a free copy of that record back in the day, after I found them a hotel room on Miami beach, but I didn’t have a record player so I settled for a CD of their weaker earlier album Surrender to Night).
