As we amass inventory for our soon-to-be-launched local webstore, we’re coming into contact with more and more ridiculously fantastic releases from South Florida artists. Check out some of the highlights below. P.S. If you’d like Sweat to carry your band’s merch (online and/or in the store) contact info@sweatrecordsmiami.com
Floor – Sight and Seen DVD
This new 2 disc collection commemorates the recent Floor reunion tour, which featured all three lineups of the near-mythological, Florida-based sludge unit. Disc 1 features footage from their two night engagement at Atlanta’s EARL, as well as a 20 minute mini-doc on the various eras of the band. Disc 2 is a fully loaded data disc (you put it in your computer) with extensive outtakes, archival footage and much more. This collection is a must-have for any and all fans of the almighty Floor.
More new local releases after the jump
Beings – Beings CD
Speaking of heavy, we’ve also got the new Beings album (on CD, LP forthcoming) and boy is it a scorcher. Few bands can pair lumbering riffage with breakneck punk rock speed like Beings. For a more extensive review, check out Crossfade
Merchandise – Strange Songs (In The Dark) LP
Miami-based label Drugged Conscience is on fire lately, and the debut LP from Tampa’s Merchandise is the crowned jewel. In an era oversaturated with tinny garage rock and all manners of nu-tropicalia, Strange Songs (In The Dark) delivers a hearty full-length’s worth of dynamic, richly textured “melodic downer pop.” Soulful crooning, synth licks, guitar licks, big crescendos, delicate lulls: this record’s got it all.
Bill Orcutt – Way Down South one-sided 12”
Absolutely scorching new E.P. from avant acoustic guitarist Bill Orcutt (ex-Harry Pussy). This is what the blues sounds like in 2011. Originally pressed as a “tour only” release, Sweat managed to obtain few copies, so check it out before it’s long gone.
Deady Bears by Michelle Kane
Local artist Michelle Kane’s Deady Bears make an excellent gift for your goth toddler.
