“Sweat Records‘ Sweatstock this Saturday, celebrating the store’s five-year anniversary and coinciding with Record Store Day, requires mandatory attendance from anyone who gives a crap about the local music scene” -NT Aww yeah. It’s our week, and happily the local press and blogs are showing love. A little wrap-up… – Miami + Broward New Times …
Congrats to Justin, lucky commenter #50 who just scored himself two tickets to Sunday night’s show with THE BLACK KEYS at the Fillmore! As of this post, tickets are still available here for $27.50 each. Odds are the show will be ridonculously good, and despite our inevitable Sweatstock hangovers, we’re gonna be there with bells …
So, we adore our customers and want to give y’all a heads up: the Record Store Day people have told us that they drastically underestimated the demand for this year’s RSD exclusives. We’re already finding out that some things we ordered 15+ copies of, we were only allotted TWO copies out of what was available. Some announced releases aren’t even coming out, some are UK-only, some bigger-market stores likely get better allotments… It’s been frustrating and in the words of one of our distributors, “a hot mess.”
Anyway, we got what we could, which is a nice chunk of stuff. Doors open at 10am on Saturday so be there early or you will definitely be left out. Our BFFs at Radio-Active Records are getting a ton of exclusives as well so we implore you to cross county lines and hit them up too!
On the up side, we ARE one of the 10 stores in North America chosen to carry the uber-exclusive new Surfer Blood/Holiday Shores split 7″, limited to 250 copies worldwide! The A side features Marnie Stern and the B side sees Holiday Shores covering Arthur Russell!
Once you’ve recovered from Saturday’s RSD festivities around South Florida, head over to the Fillmore Sunday night for a sure-to-be-awesome live performance by THE BLACK KEYS! Since 2001 this duo have been peddling their blues-rock around the universe – touring non-stop, recording albums with Dangermouse, winning fans like Robert Plant, QOTSA, Radiohead and others, and …
[Check out this guest post on more Sweatstock-related music from ANR‘s John Hancock! -Lo] When I first moved down here from Maryland and would occasionally step into the vacuum of Miami nightlife, I’d see this really tall dude that looked a whole lot like the lead singer of a band I use to go see …
Here’s the first of a few posts about some of the great musical acts performing this weekend! If you haven’t heard of PANIC BOMBER by now, you’ve been sleeping, son! He’ll be performing live with his full horn section and all the bells and whistles on Friday at The Vagabond, and then he’ll be spinning …
All this rain…tax time…you need a laugh! We do too and that’s why we’re glad that tomorrow night is the monthly CASA DE HA-HA! Come out to Sweat for stand-up comedy by some of South Florida’s most ridiculous humans. It’s also nerd comic extraordinaire/ex-Sweater Ivan Hernandez‘ last Casa for a while so come out and bid him a fond farewell!
In addition to Sweat’s 5-Year Anniversary, Saturday is also Record Store Day 2010! RSD is our favorite made-up holiday EVER! It was started in 2008 as a way to celebrate the independent record store and its role in society. Since then it’s grown into a massive global movement, with hundreds of artists putting out exclusive …
