Dear Friends,

Thanks for the great response about last week’s open call to host events at Sweat!! So far people have come to us about everything from vegan potlucks to local authors sharing their work. We’re scheduling everything in and will have a ton of events coming up through February and March!!

Lots of new music in at the store, this week brings us new albums by The Magnetic Fields among others!! We’ve also just received a huge shipment of awesome, funky, artsy, punk rock and hard-to-find books and magazines. Speaking of books, the first selection of the freshly reinstated SWEAT BOOKS Book Club is Irvine Welsh’s latest novel “Bedroom Secrets of the Master Chefs”!! As the author of Trainspotting, The Acid House, Filth and more, Welsh is definitely a favorite around Sweat HQ. We’ll have copies in next week or feel free to pick one up at one of the excellent BOOKS & BOOKS locations around Miami. The meeting will be Wednesday, February 27th at 8pm. Be there and be square…

Tonight Sweat represents at the JAM @ MAM!! I’m spinning and it’s a celebration of the awesome “Miami Contemporary Artists” book. Full info below, 5pm to 8.30.

This Saturday two exciting events are taking place near enough to each other to hit both!! First is “Native Seeds III” – the annual fundraiser for LegalArt, a fantastic local non-profit that provides artists with free legal advice, grants, seminars and more. Come out for bingo, free beer, a live performance by RACHEL GOODRICH, and movies by the last Native Seeds grant winner CLIFTON CHILDREE. It starts at 7pm at The Standard Hotel on the Venetian Causeway.

And then… Sweat Records is proud to be a co-sponsor of ARTOPIA 08 – The Miami New Times’ 20th Anniversary Celebration!!!! This blowout event has SO MUCH going on including live performances by THE SPAM ALL STARS, RAFFA AND RAINER and ANR, DJ sets by DJ HOTTPANTS, THE DEUCE CREW, BLACK JESUS and RYAN EVANS, fashion shows, live art, food, drinks, dancers, performance art and tons of other eye and ear candy!! There’s also free vodka 9 to 11pm. Pre-sale ends tonight at midnight and gets you in for $15, or it’s $20 at the door.
