Happy Holidays everyone! We’re celebrating tonight with the 4th Annual Sweat Stocking Stuffer, and you’re all invited to come over to our house. Join us from 7pm to 11pm for good tunes, projections by the always awesome Coral Morphologic, and we may even get a visit from Nastie Santa(just don’t sit on his lap!) We’ll have complimentary yumminess with cookies, vegan treats, and tastings of hot chocolate, chai, vegan egg nog, which can be spiked upon request
This is also the chance for all you last minute shoppers(like me) to take advantage of our BIG sale on tons of music and merch! In the last couple days we’ve gotten in tons of new vinyl, books and dvds that would make great gifts for family and friends.
Stop by our little gathering tonight and let us show appreciation for all the support you’ve given us this year. Sweat loves you!
When you leave Sweat, you can continue the party down the road at the Electric Pickle for a free holiday mash-up fiesta! A bunch of talented Vagabonds will be taking over the downstairs with our bar manager Henri leading the way, while Champion Sound does their thing outside with Sire Esq. and Tom Laroc.
In the upstairs loft, local electronic label petFood is hosting a tech house throwdown featuring the sounds of Lazaro Casanova, Jay-You, Diego de la Vega, Daltn + Inbal Lankry.

Animal Tropical (say it Miami style: ahh-nee-mahl trow-pee-cahl) are one of the best and most underrated bands in the whole damn city. Formerly the Down Home Southernaires and jazz-rockers Pygmy before that, these four talented and well-dressed gentlemen make some of the most uniquely weird but listenable music around. Read nice things other people had to say about them here.
Below is the first video from their latest EP “Doom Years” which is available right now at Sweat Records for just $5. The video is by band member Jorge Rubiera who is also ANR‘s touring drummer and a director in his own right. We’ll be premiering more of their videos right here in the coming weeks. There are boobies, so consider this vid NSFW:
P.S. You’ll be able to catch Animal Tropical live at an upcoming date at Fridays at The Vagabond – we’ll let you know soon!

More new local music! The Electric Bunnies have been hopping around Miami for a few years now, playing their psychedelic tunes to appreciative audiences. They’ve released a few 7″s but their full length LP is finally here and it’s a beauty. Through the Magical Door is a gorgeous gatefold LP designed by Lucha Workshop and along with the perforated inserts it becomes a whole board game! Very awesome.
Our good friends Colin Foord and Jared McKay of Morphologic Studios were recently profiled on WLRN’s ArtStreet!
Watch the video below, read this great interview with them on Artlurker, and bookmark Morphologic’s fascinating blog where they post gorgeous underwater photos, new species they’ve come across (!) and other fun science/art/music-related tidbits. You can also peep their Vimeo channel and follow them on Twitter.
Having one of their tanks at Sweat Records for the past two years has been a wonderful education for us in corals and marine life, and has made us wholeheartedly agree that Miami could use an excellent public aquarium space so that everyone has access to these graceful, misunderstood and endangered species.
We have no doubt that Morphologic are going to be a huge force in art and conservation down here for years to come.
Tonight at Sweat we’re screening the film VISIONEERS starring bearded funnyman and lip-sync-er extraordinaire Zach Galifianakis!
Read about the film, watch the trailer below and come out tonight. Seating is at 8pm, the film rolls at 8.30 and your movie ticket for the evening will cost you zero dollars.
Enjoy the cold weather with a movie and a warm cup of hot cocoa or a tea latte at Sweat!
Some of you may have seen a man in a red suit with a 7-foot-tall yellow balloon head popping up at The Vagabond, the streets of South Beach, the Iggy party many other places… He’s been studying us Miamians intently and you’ll get his perspective Saturday night, we’ve seen some of the pics and they’re incredible. Btw, if his work seems familiar it’s because Andrew did the covers for all the Girl Talk albums!
Watch the video below and check out the show on your Gallery Walk!
“Bad Brilliance in Miami Featuring the Faces of the People He Met There” opens Saturday night, 7-10pm at the Bas Fisher Invitational, 180 NE 39th St. Suite 210
Back to (((SHAKE))) by popular demand is Miami’s Celebrity DJ Tom Laroc! Join us this Thursday at The Vagabond for another one of his multi-talented performances. Last time he wowed the crowd with a jumbotron he borrowed from the AAA, showing off his video mixing skills along with his turntable prowess.
Doormouse, A-Train, Keen One, Johnny Strokes + Alex Caso will be doing how they do with the best hip hop, Miami bass, reggae, soul +funk to keep you dancing all night. BBQ, Nintendo + Quart Chug Contests in true (((SHAKE))) style. Come for the Dirty Hour and get free admission + $1 Colt 45 until 11. RSVP to shake305@gmail.com. Do your job.
