Panic Bomber Is Getting On Your Mind

    posted by Lolo

Prepare thyselves!  Panic Bomber‘s new album is coming out and there’s going to be an insane show this Saturday night to celebrate the release. He’s performing live with all the bells and whistles at the White Room – horn section, special effects, perhaps a few new covers planned… – along with DJ sets by Damaged Goods, Troy Kurtz and Juan Basshead.  All denizens of the dancefloor will be thoroughly satisfied.

Panic Bomber’s new full-length “Getting On My Mind” drops next Tuesday but Sweat’s got the CD available right here right now for you to obtain!  It’s $7, less than the cost of a drink at most clubs, but you’ll get 12 tracks (eight originals and four different remixes) that you can listen to on repeat to your heart’s content.  In other words, it’s a great deal for a really damn good CD.

    Animal Tropical “Waterbed City” Video

    posted by Lolo

Animal Tropical (say it Miami style: ahh-nee-mahl trow-pee-cahl) are one of the best and most underrated bands in the whole damn city.  Formerly the Down Home Southernaires and jazz-rockers Pygmy before that, these four talented and well-dressed gentlemen make some of the most uniquely weird but listenable music around.  Read nice things other people had to say about them here.

Below is the first video from their latest EP “Doom Years” which is available right now at Sweat Records for just $5.  The video is by band member Jorge Rubiera who is also ANR‘s touring drummer and a director in his own right. We’ll be premiering more of their videos right here in the coming weeks.  There are boobies, so consider this vid NSFW:

P.S. You’ll be able to catch Animal Tropical live at an upcoming date at Fridays at The Vagabond – we’ll let you know soon!

New Local Music: Black Bobby “Phat Kid Tendencies”

    posted by Lolo

TONS of awesome new releases have been emerging from right in our backyard.  We’re going to be turning you on to as many of them as possible in the next few weeks.  This one you don’t even have to buy…

BLACK BOBBY is the alias of Miami-based MC Larry Harris, Jr.  Originally from DC, this Harvard grad was about to start running for seats but realized his calling was to run rhymes and move seats!  He’s all about preserving the original spirit of hip hop – his album has no grandstanding foolishness, no bling-worship, and no features – it’s just one man rapping right over some classic beats and reminding you what hip hop is all about.

    ANR/Panic Bomber/Life of Seals

    posted by Lolo

Sweat best-sellers Awesome New Republic are back from a huge North American tour and are playing live this Saturday!  We can’t get enough of their new album “Hearts” and are psyched to see them back in Miami, where they always throw in a few classic ANR goodies for the hometown crowd.

Not only that but opening up are PANIC BOMBER, who absolutely killed it last Friday at The Vagabond, and Life of Seals who we can’t get enough of either.  Plus Sweat regular DJPJ, Circuitree’s Nived-N-Hydro and art by Stian Roenning.  We’ve still got pre-sale tickets at the store available for $8 cash.  See you there!

Local Music Debut: JESP’s “Heart Rhythm”

    posted by Lolo

Time to welcome another great local release: JESP is the solo alter-ego of musician Joseph Espinoza, former lead singer of the late Miami band Outereach, and we’re debuting his brand new record right here!

    Photobucket

JESP’s first full-length album “Heart Rhythm” is straight-ahead electronic pop with a definite retro-rock slant, aptly described by the New Times as a “cross between Chromeo and Jan Hammer.”  It’s definitely worth a listen for any fan of upbeat, danceable pop.  I’ve been spinning the title track out in my sets at The Vagabond for a couple months and the crowd’s been digging it.  As Joey himself has said, “This album is for Miami and anyone else who dares to listen.”

You can click here to download the album for free for a limited time,

You can click below to purchase the album from Snocap for $9.99:

The choice is yours, but of course purchasing music is a great way to support local artists.

Going to shows is another great way to support!  Your next chance to see JESP live is at the official album release show, Saturday, November 14th during Second Saturday Gallery Walk at the Awarehouse.  Surf over to myspace.com/jespmusic to stay in the loop.

New Local Release: Teepee “Morals” LP

    posted by Lolo

Fresh to the record bins at Sweat Records is a great new local release!  Teepee is the musical nom de plume of Eric Lopez-Zareno.  He delves into musical territories ranging from “synth-pop/punk foolery” to “outsider/drone/free improvisation”.

Each Teepee performance is different too – when he played at Fridays at The Vagabond last February I walked away thinking he was like a 1-man Mars Volta, but sometimes he’s accompanied by a full band, and that’s when he’s not also joining the ranks of the Electric Bunnies and Melted Sunglasses.

Teepee’s debut LP “Morals” is self-released on Lopez-Zareno’s own Senzei record label.  Download the free track below and pick it up at Sweat!
