12“HEADZ” In-Store Reading Tonight
posted by LoloTonight at Sweat in honor of Book Fair week is a local literary event! Miami author and writing professor John “J.J.” Colagrande Jr. recently published his debut novel HEADZ, a “literary journey covering music festivals and contemporary counterculture.” A summary:
Thelonious Horowitz is the next big thing, the Bob Dylan of his times, and he’s feeling uninspired. In the past, traveling to music festivals always lifted his spirits. With his band playing a gig in a few days, he decides to leave New York to venture to Oracledang, the biggest and baddest musical festival of the summer. A diverse cast of ten characters, living in New York, Miami, and San Francisco, round out the novel. In the novel, everyone comes together at the music festival in Chicago, where paths converge for a summer event none of the characters will soon forget, and a show few will get to see.
Read more about the book here, come to Sweat tonight at 8pm for the reading and pick up a copy!

10Miami Book Fair International XXVI
posted by LoloBookworms unite!
2009 will be the 26th year of the world-renowned Miami Book Fair International. Perhaps some of us take it for granted because it’s right in our backyard, but this is a really big deal! From now through Sunday the Downtown fair will be hosting a non-stop onslaught of authors, readings, workshops, expos and more, with the book-vendor-filled street fair running all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
There are some truly AWESOME authors and speakers this year – Al Gore, the Daily Show’s John Hodgman, Melvin Van Peebles, Jonathan Lethem and our personal favorite for obvious reasons, Iggy Pop and Robert Matheu talking about the newly released authorized biography of The Stooges!
The bigger events require tickets which are FREE, you just have to reserve them at the Miami Book Fair’s site. Check out the fair’s full line-up, there really is something for everyone.
