4A Funny Week Ahead

Monday night, Movie Mondays presents STELLA SHORTS! From our good friend Jason of Model Citizens who set this screening up:
“Dumb comedy dressed up in a suit!” The Stella Shorts are a collection of short homemade sketch-comedy films that were written, produced, and starred Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter, and David Wain of the comedy group The State (along with guest actors such as Paul Rudd, Sam Rockwell, Janeane Garafallo, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks, and more). The short films were originally shown at the group’s live stage show at the Fez nightclub in New York from 1998 to 2004 and contain the raunchy humor which spawned the Stella television show (that ran for one season on Comedy Central in 2005). Come check out this rare screening of irreverant, chaotic, silly comedy.
AND, what is possibly the coolest thing ever, the guys caught wind that we were screening their stuff and sent along a personalized message for us to watch before the screening! It’s the next best thing to having Michael Ian Black shout you out on Twitter.
Then Tuesday night, buckle up for the last CASA DE HA-HA of 2009! For over a year now Sweat has played host to some of South Florida’s absolute finest comedians and this second Tuesday is no different! Host Daniel Reskin brings known and unknown comics from the local scene to the Sweat stage. No cover and no drink minimums so we hope to see you out!

Stanhope is known for working outside the comedy club circuit in favor of performing at any “boozer joint” with a stage and microphone. Perfect fit for a man with comedy that won’t conform. Be prepared for some culture-shaking prophetic rants, laced with the finest hooker/poop/drug jokes on the market. Comic-comparisons can be trite, but I’d say if Bill Hicks and George Carlin starred in 2 Girls 1 Cup, Doug Stanhope is the cup. Drink deeply. Now go to Ticketmaster.
And speaking of unholy crap, I get to open for him! This is not only an honor, but also a chance to make some real connections, maybe a new dealer. Not really, mine is great. I saw Stanhope two years ago at Crowbar in Tampa, check out the fan pic!

Because it’s not easy to laugh when you’ve got SWAMP-ASS.
What is swamp-ass? Hm, you must be new to the area. Well, imagine the beauty of our beloved Everglades swamplands. Moist, squishy and teeming with life. Now transpose that whole steamy mess betwixt the cheeks of your booty. Violà!
If things are still sweaty at Sweat next month, the show must go on. In tradition of the human spirit, we will adapt.
Casa de Ha-Ha will become Casa de Hot-Hot! Like a phoenix or some crap.
You will be wearing your beach clothes!
There will be hot pizza and ice cold sodas for cheap!
Maybe a booby will fall out, who knows?!See you at there! Mark your calendars for August 11th at 8.30pm and get ready to laugh your (hopefully) non-swampy ass off…

In case you can’t read the fine print that’s John Wynn, Pam “Cooking Spray” Bruno, Sweat’s own employee-of-the-month-every-month Ivan Hernandez, Oni Perez, Freddy Stebbins (host of the weekly Laughs on the Mile Wednesdays at John Martin’s), Richy “Bunsen Honeydew” Lala, the lovely Jessica Gross, Patrick Schroeder, Sir Adrian Mesa (or Sebastian Turquoise or whichever shade of blue he’ll be calling himself tonight), lost Metalocalypse member Matt Zigan, Will Lopez and Drew Spears! Come out tonight to see them all make the funny.
It starts at 8.30, is FREE, and couldn’t we all use a little ha-ha?
