    Second Saturdays: Worth The HYPE!

    posted by Lolo

Tomorrow night during Second Saturdays Gallery Walk there is a TON of cool stuff going on.  Here are three events that are sure to be worthwhile:

At the De La Cruz Gallery (23 NE 41st St.), Psychic Youth, Inc. present the third installment of their TRI installation series.  Federico Nessi, Ana Mendez and Aja Albertson will inhabit the space from 7-10pm.  Afterward, head over to Bar (28 NE 14th St.) for Psychic Second Saturdays with DJs Nuit, R3K+ and Richard V. spinning dark yet danceable post-punk and beyond.

At the Cafeina Gallery (297 NW 23rd St.), check out the opening night of the CRYSTAL MONOLITHS group show!  The reception is from 8-12 and the show features work by Francesco LoCastro, Santiago Rubino and more.  Full info here.

Last but certainly not least, make your way over to Eazy Street Gallery (3501 NW 2nd Ave.) to BELIEVE THE HYPE! It’s the second installment of a group show that happened at the Bold Hype Gallery in Orlando last September.  This massive Miami version is curated by Dustin Orlando (Objex!) and features an array of “urban contemporary, pop surrealist, mixed media and kill or be killed street artists from around the world.”

Your 10 bucks at the door includes free cocktails all night, giveaways, tunes by DJ Keen One, and ANR will be playing a special Sweatstock warm-up set!  Watch the promo video below and don’t miss the awesomeness all around us this Saturday night.

    Sweat x IronForge Press!

    posted by Lolo

Now firmly settled into our permanent space, we are proud to present the first of what we plan to be many official in-store art exhibits by some of the myriad local talents we are blessed with here in South Florida.

For Art Basel week 2009 Sweat Records is proud to team up with the incredible people at Ft. Lauderdale’s Iron Forge Press!  Their show “First Five Years” will be on display at the store though January 31, 2010 and features over 40 of the insanely awesome hand-pulled silk-screen concert posters they’ve done for shows in South Florida. The amount of detail in each one is amazing in real life, but take a digital peek:

IronForge made our Iggy shirts and we can’t recommend them highly enough for any poster, printing, graphic or t-shirt job (note to Miami bands: make more t-shirts!).  Read more about IronForge and co-founders Chuck and Ian who seriously f*%king rock on their website and blog.

We’re having the opening reception in the shop tomorrow night from 7-10pm and we’ll be serving free cocktails and playing great music.  Stop by then head over to The Vagabond for more of IronForge’s work and a special live set by NYC’s Telepathe!

Btw, if his work seems familiar it’s because Andrew did the covers for all the Girl Talk albums!
