Suitable for all levels. No ticket required. Bring yourself, a yoga mat, a friend, your favorite juice, or anything else you’d like to help you get the most out of this experience. NWS Yoga Mornings take place rain or shine! Enjoy yoga on the lawn of SoundScape Park or, if raining, in the New World Center’s SunTrust Pavilion.

Chamber Music Masters

New World Center

From symphonic greats come miniature masterworks in this concert of musical gems. Robert Schumann puts his ultra-Romantic sensibilities on full display in his beloved Piano Quintet, one of the first works to ever pair piano with a string quartet. Strings, winds and brass playfully toss melodies back and forth in Paul Hindemith’s Baroque-inspired Octet. Franz Joseph Haydn is known as both Father of the Symphony AND the String Quartet. Part of his last and most renowned set, the D major Quartet is full of surprising harmonic turns and inventive thematic variations.

New album “Eternal Return” on Relapse represents a new era for the group, a chrysalis moment that takes them to new and unforeseen heights. Once again the band has joined forces with producer Jack Endino (Nirvana, Soundgarden) with vivid artwork by Arik Roper (Sleep, High on Fire). Equally informed by heavy, fuzzed-out psych along with the iconic grunge / alternative groups of the 90s, WINDHAND has crafted a record brilliant in scope, powerful in execution, and perfect for an era of increasingly blurry yet still heavy borders.

First Fridays at ICA Miami ft. Bonaventure (Discwoman)

Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami

ICA Miami welcomes electronic artist Bonaventure (Discwoman) to First Fridays for a special performance, along with Miami-based artist and Space Tapes founder Nick León and a DJ set by Ashley Venom.

Bonaventure uses music as an identity research tool along with practical and speculative initiatives to connect her African and European roots and investigate human relationships. Bonaventure has performed at renowned international nightclubs including Janus x NON XCHANGE at Berghain Säule, CREEPY TEEPY Festival in Prague, the 404RCE night in Club ALL, Shanghai, Moogfest held in Durham, NC and H0l0 PTP night in NYC, and has shared the stage with artists like Princess Nokia, LSDXOXO, Dinamarca, M.E.S.H., FAKA and Yves Tumor.

Nick León is a Miami-based experimental electronic musician and producer. With a film score, further production for other artists including Warp Record’s Gaika, DJ gigs and a label/collective he launched for other producers and bedroom musicians in Miami, Nick León’s hands are full, his heart happy and his beats teeming with (real) life.

First Fridays is a neighborhood-wide initiative celebrating art and performance in the Miami Design District. Explore ICA Miami’s exhibitions after dark, and enjoy activities for guests of all ages—film screenings, exhibition tours, performances, and more!

Museum guests are encouraged to explore various after-hours activations throughout the Miami Design District, including world-class public art installations by Sol LeWitt, Urs Fischer, and Buckminster Fuller, among others, and a free Performance Series produced by 19-time Grammy© Award-winning producer Emilio Estefan in collaboration with Maestro Eduardo Marturet from The Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO).

First Fridays at ICA Miami are free and open to the public, and are presented by the museum’s Innovation Partner, MINI.

The rapper released Winter in Prague, a mixtape issued as a free download. A darker, more introspective mixtape, Stolen Youth, arrived later with a co-billing to Larry Fisherman (a Mac Miller alias) Staples then performed as the opening act on Miller’s Space Migration tour. The rapper continued his steady ascent with a fourth mixtape, Shyne Goldchain, Vol. 2 His debut album, Summertime ’06 rose to number three on the Billboard R&B/hip-hop chart and was selected as one of the top albums of 2015 on many notable year-end lists. The following summer, Staples released Prima Donna, a seven-track EP that featured A$AP Rocky and Kilo Kish. Again breaking into the Top Ten on the R&B/hip-hop chart, the EP featured production by James Blake. In 2017 Staples issued his sophomore album, Big Fish Theory. The last time drummer Brendan Canty and bassist Joe Lally were in a band together, they were the rhythmic architects for Fugazi, an organization whose decade and a half of disciplined progressivism provided a necessary bridge between the zenith of late-punk expression and everything alternative in rock that followed. Anthony Pirog is a jazz and experimental guitarist based in Washington, D.C. The trio’s debut on Dischord Records was recorded at Canty’s practice space throughout 2017, live and mostly without overdubs. It’s a snapshot of a band dedicated to the live ideal, where structure gives birth to improvisation.

Mary Lattimore is a Los Angeles-based harpist. She experiments with effects through her Lyon and Healy Concert Grand pedal harp, concocting half-structured improvisations which can include both ambient glitter and unsettling noise. Her first solo record, the Withdrawing Room, was released on Desire Path Recordings in 2014. The solo recordings that followed, At the Dam and Collected Pieces, were released by Ghostly International.
Mary has also recorded synth + harp duo projects with Elysse Thebner Miller (And the Birds Flew Overhead) and Jeff Zeigler (Slant of Light) and has co-written reimagined scores for the 1968 experimental silent film Le Revelateur, directed by Philippe Garrel (who approved of the project), and the Czech New Wave classic Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, and performed these scores live throughout the US with Jeff Zeigler and the Valerie Project, respectively. She has contributed and written harp parts for such artists as Kurt Vile, Thurston Moore, Sharon Van Etten, Meg Baird, Steve Gunn, the Clientele, Hop Along, Jarvis Cocker, Karen Elson, Ed Askew and Quilt.
Ghostly International will release her third solo record in late spring of 2018.

Yann Tiersen – Solo in Concert

Olympia Theater at Gusman Center for the Performing Arts

Artist, composer, performer, Yann Tiersenn may be known for his playful, easy melancholy soundtrack to “Amélie from Montmartre” – but fans and followers know his music styles run the gamut from punky thrashing guitar to notable collaborations with hipster icons like Jane Birkin and the Cocteau Twins’ Elizabeth Fraser.

Along the way Yann Tiersen has turned out acclaimed studio albums such as Les Retrouvailles, Dust Lane, Skyline and EUSA while establishing himself as a top performer in concert halls around the world.

This winter, Yann Tiersen drops his latest album – ALL. Releasing, February 15 2019 – ALL – is the first album to be recorded at Yann Tiersen’s new studio, venue and community centre, The Eskal, built in an abandoned discotheque on the island of Ushant, a small island positioned in the Celtic sea between Brittany and Cornwall, Tiersen’s home for the past 10 years.

The album, mixed and co-produced by Gareth Jones, continues the themes of environment and a connection to nature first explored on EUSA, incorporating recordings from outside of Brittany, such as the redwood forests of California as well as field recordings from Tempelhof airport in Berlin (on ‘Tempelhof’), plus guest vocalists.
