The Roots, the legendary Grammy Award-winning hip-hop crew and arguably the hardest working musicians in popular culture, continue to break the mold 25 years after the band was founded. The Roots are the house band for “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” hosting sold-out jam sessions across the country, collaborating on new works for contemporary performances (Lincoln Center, BAM, Kimmel Center), and consistently churning out Grammy-nominated albums.
Melodic post-grunge outfit Pop Evil formed in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The band developed a sound and performance style that took cues from the likes of Kiss, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam that aptly put them right in line with popular modern rock acts such as Crossfade, Shinedown, and Puddle of Mudd. The band released its debut independent album, War of the Roses before signing with Universal/Republic imprint Pazzo, who reissued their sophomore LP Lipstick on the Mirror. The album featured three singles that hit Billboard’s Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, including the Top Ten “100 in a 55.” The band enjoyed greater success with the E1 label, beginning with War of Angels and Onyx, both of which peaked around number 40 on the Billboard 200. Up, their fifth album was considered to be their best release yet.

Philadelphia’s Circa Survive was formed by former Saosin vocalist Anthony Green with guitarist Colin Frangicetto — both of them veterans of the local emo and hardcore scenes looking to indulge in the rule-breaking freedom of the neo-progressive movement of the mid-2000s. Circa Survive recorded an album, Juturna (named after a Roman goddess), for Equal Vision Records in 2005. Lots of touring followed, including Warped Tour dates, and the album steadily sold an impressive 100,000 copies. A spot at the 2007 Coachella Festival paved the way for the late May release of Circa Survive’s follow-up, On Letting Go, which cracked the Top 40 of the Billboard Top 200. The band eventually left Equal Vision to sign with Atlantic, and in 2010 released its third album, Blue Sky Noise, which eschewed many of the hardcore elements of records past in favor of a more melodic, indie rock approach. (No surprise that the album charted quite high, almost making the Top Ten.) The band’s fourth long-player, the self-released Violent Waves, arrived in 2012 and debuted at the number 15 slot on the album charts. After its release, Circa Survive signed to Sumerian, which reissued a deluxe edition of Violent Waves and then released the band’s fifth album, Descensus, in November 2014. Touring in 2015 and 16 celebrated the Tenth Anniversary of their first album Juturna.

Over Atmosphere’s more than twenty-year career they have managed to continually tweak and strive to perfect their formula, while neither straying too far off their path, nor resorting to playing it safe. Starting at Overcast, the group’s first official album, and traveling through years of new albums, side projects and various collaborations, Atmosphere’s music has evolved in a way that differs from many of their peers and predecessors. As Atmosphere steps into their next year of making music, Slug & Antshow no signs of slowing, compromising or losing sight of their vision. Nor has time revealed any diminishing of those qualities that have brought them this far. Musically, Ant has continued to define Atmosphere’s sound, ranging from a healthy mixture of upbeat and fun, to the oft more iconic, moody and personal. As for the lyrics, Slugstarted his passion for rhyming with an obsessive-like penchant for the way words intersect, as well as how those words can be manipulated for unexpected and clever meanings. Their passion and creative spark are as illuminate as ever. Slug and Ant still have plenty of stories to tell.

Dropkick Murphys are an American Celtic punk band known for their loud, energetic live shows. The band was initially signed to independent punk record label Hellcat Records, releasing five albums and making a name for themselves locally through constant touring and yearly St. Patrick’s Day week shows held in and around Boston. The single “Tessie” became the band’s first mainstream hit and one of their biggest charting singles. The band’s final Hellcat release, The Warrior’s Code, included the song “I’m Shipping Up to Boston”; the song was featured in the Academy Award-winning movie The Departed, and went on to become the band’s Platinum-selling single and remains one of their best-known songs. The band then began releasing music through their own imprint label. The Meanest of Times made its debut at No. 20 on the Billboard charts and featured the successful single, “The State of Massachusetts”, while Going Out in Style was an even bigger success, making its debut at No. 6, giving the band their highest-charting album. The band’s eighth studio album, Signed and Sealed in Blood made its debut at No. 9 on the Billboard charts. The band is currently recording their ninth studio album which they expect to have released by the end of the year or early 2017.

Cited as one of the most influential punk groups of all time, The Damned (Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Monty Oxymoron, Pinch, and Stu West) contributed vastly to the gothic rock genre and influenced an entire generation of future hardcore punk bands with their fast paced energetic playing style and attitude. Along with the Sex Pistols and The Clash, they helped spearhead the punk movement in the UK. Now, four decades and ten albums later and still on the road, they continue to wave the flag for originality, stick two fingers up to mediocrity and celebrate a punk ethos in the face of plastic entertainment and scripted reality. The Damned are planning to record a brand new album, their first since 2008’s So, Who’s Paranoid?, for release in 2017 and this tour will be in support of this new effort.
