Fillmore Miami Beach

ALESSIA CARA brings her uniquely soulful sound to the intimate Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater Tuesday, October 28th, 2016 at 7:30PM.

There’s a new breed of pop star seizing hold of the world’s airwaves and online — more accurately, a conscious pop star who’s set to subversively top charts and sway hearts and minds. This enigma embodied is 18-year-old Canadian-Italian Alessia Cara, who’s riding the refrains of her ironic anthem, “Here” which garnered over 500,000 total streams in its first week, a resounding praise for its freshness and insight. Powerful stuff from a teenage voice; in fact, that’s powerful stuff from anyone who’s ever put pen to pad in name of art. And Alessia’s mature pen game is matched by her larger than life voice; she’s dazzlingly chameleon like, boasting the kind of versatility that makes Rihanna such a force. In short, Alessia has cause to be confident. But she’s still the bashful, small town girl even in the big city. “I want my music to be cool and reflective of my influences — Drake, Amy Winehouse, Ed Sheeran — but still new,” she explains. “I didn’t expect everything to feel so natural and organic. And I can’t believe how quickly it’s going.”  Alessia is equal parts fresh face, old soul, newcomer, and lifer. She’s going, quickly. Now it’s up to the rest of the world to catch up and catch on.

Olympia Theater at Gusman Center for the Performing Arts

ONE NIGHT ONLY at the historic Olympia Theater in Downtown Miami! The history of Bob Moses is as circuitous as the cool house music duo’s name.Members Jimmy Vallance and Tom Howie knew each other from the Vancouver high school they both attended.  They were drawn together thanks to a shared love of pop-punk bands. Adulthood found them both in Brooklyn, with Vallance recording Berlin-styled techno while Howie worked in the realm of the singer/songwriter. Both felt musically stuck and hungered for something new – a problem solved by the simple union of their styles, which created something cool and decidedly “post-club.”

Philadelphia’s Circa Survive was formed by former Saosin vocalist Anthony Green with guitarist Colin Frangicetto — both of them veterans of the local emo and hardcore scenes looking to indulge in the rule-breaking freedom of the neo-progressive movement of the mid-2000s. Circa Survive recorded an album, Juturna (named after a Roman goddess), for Equal Vision Records in 2005. Lots of touring followed, including Warped Tour dates, and the album steadily sold an impressive 100,000 copies.  A spot at the 2007 Coachella Festival paved the way for the late May release of Circa Survive’s follow-up, On Letting Go, which cracked the Top 40 of the Billboard Top 200. The band eventually left Equal Vision to sign with Atlantic, and in 2010 released its third album, Blue Sky Noise, which eschewed many of the hardcore elements of records past in favor of a more melodic, indie rock approach. (No surprise that the album charted quite high, almost making the Top Ten.) The band’s fourth long-player, the self-released Violent Waves, arrived in 2012 and debuted at the number 15 slot on the album charts. After its release, Circa Survive signed to Sumerian, which reissued a deluxe edition of Violent Waves and then released the band’s fifth album, Descensus, in November 2014. Touring in 2015 and 16 celebrated the Tenth Anniversary of their first album Juturna.
