Sweat + O Cinema’s Music Movie Series Presents D.O.A.: A RIGHT OF PASSAGE

O Cinema Wynwood

Presented in a brand-new restoration, D.O.A.: A RIGHT OF PASSAGE is the groundbreaking, iconic rockumentary classic about punk’s incendiary origin!

Centered around the Sex Pistols’ ill-fated ’78 American tour — which ended with the group infamously disbanding — this molotov cocktail of a rock doc (originally produced by High Times Magazine!) not only features this blistering Pistols footage, but also sweat-soaked, in-your-face performances by fellow giants X-Ray Spex, Generation X w/ Billy Idol, Sham 69 and the Dead Boys.

Director Lech Kowalski deftly weaves this raucous experience together with footage of edgy trends in the fashion capitals, punks of all shapes/sizes and silly naysaying from critics. Most notoriously, D.O.A. contains one of the final interviews recorded with Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen before their tragic deaths mere months later. This legendary sequence alone is worth the price of admission to any fan of rock ’n roll history.

9pm screening, all ages welcome, tickets available now at https://www.o-cinema.org/event/d-o-a-a-rite-of-passage/

Blackwater Sol Revue feat. JJ Grey & Mofro & More

Fillmore Miami Beach

It’s an exciting night for jamband fans as JJ Grey & Mofro come to the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater on Sunday, February 25th, 2018 / 6:30PM supported by a host of favorites, The North Mississippi All Stars. The Marcus King Band and the Bobby Lee Rodgers Trio..  Tickets go on sale Friday, November 17th / 10AM.

From the days of playing greasy local juke joints to headlining major festivals, JJ Grey remains an unfettered, blissful performer, singing with a blue-collared spirit over the bone-deep grooves of his compositions. His presence before an audience is something startling and immediate, at times a funk rave-up, other times a sort of mass-absolution for the mortal weaknesses that make him and his audience human. When you see JJ Grey and his band Mofro live—and you truly, absolutely must—the man is fearless.  Now along with favorites, The Mississippi All Stars, The Marcus King Band and the Bobby Lee Rodgers Trio, this is a match made in jamband heaven!

The Pretenders

Fillmore Miami Beach

Legendary rockers, The Pretenders come to the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater on Sunday, March 25th, 2018 / 8PM.  Tickets go on sale Friday, January 26th / 10AM.

The Pretenders are making a rare headlining appearance at the Fillmore Miami Beach.  While the group eventually became a vehicle for guitarist/vocalist Chrissie Hynde’s songwriting, it was a full-fledged band when it was formed in the late ’70s. With their initial records, the group crossed the bridge between punk/new wave and Top 40 pop more than any other band, recording a series of hard, spiky singles that were also melodic and immediately accessible. Hynde soared as an invigorating, sexy singer who bent the traditional male roles of rock & roll to her own liking.  Over the years and in many incarnations The Pretenders became a more straightforward rock band, yet Hynde’s semi-autobiographical songwriting and bracing determination meant that the group never became just another rock band.  From the seminal hits such as “Brass In Pocket,” Back On The Chain Gang,” “Middle Of The Road” and more to their latest album, Alone, The Pretenders will rock your world!

Reserved Seat tickets for The Pretenders, Sunday, March 25th, 2018 / 8PM are $42.50 in advance and $45.00 Day of Show.  A limited number of Mezzanine Special Reserved Seats are also available for $65.00.

Michael Franti & Spearhead at Tortuga Music Festival

Tortuga Music Festival

In creating their ninth studio album SOULROCKER, Michael Franti & Spearhead introduced a new sensibility to their potent hybrid of hip-hop, rock, folk, and reggae: a gracefully arranged take on electronic music that more than fulfills the band’s mission of making impassioned music you can dance to. Along with harnessing the Bay Area-based band’s dynamic energy for a more powerful impact than ever before, SOULROCKER again shows Franti’s singular ability to channel frustration into music that’s both thought-provoking and triumphantly hopeful.

Michael Franti & Spearhead will perform at Tortuga Music Festival which takes place from April 6-8 on the beaches of Ft. Lauderdale.

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark

Revolution Live

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark head to Revolution Live on Saturday, April 14.

Featuring the core members Paul Humphreys and Andy McCluskey, the Liverpudlian synth pop group Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark released its first single, “Electricity,” on Factory Records; the record led to a contract with the Virgin subsidiary DinDisc. In 1980, the group released its self-titled debut album. It was followed by Organisation, which featured the U.K. Top Ten single “Enola Gay.” The band’s next few albums — Architecture & Morality, Dazzle Ships, and Junk Culture  — found the band experimenting with its sound, resulting in several U.K. hit singles. Crush, their most pop-oriented album, found more success in America than in Britain as the single “So in Love” hit number 26 on the charts. “If You Leave,” taken from the Pretty in Pink soundtrack, was their biggest American hit, climbing to number four. After a hiatus a full-blown reunion came in 2006, including both McCluskey and Humphreys. They dabbled in a few more projects and as soon as they were off the road they began writing songs for another album. Taking its name, and some inspiration, from Italian divisionist/symbolist painterGiovanni Segantini’s work titled The Punishment of Luxury, the band’s 13th album was made by the duo of McCluskey and Humphreys and released by White Noise Records in September of 2017. Royal Blood

Revolution Live

Brighton duo Royal Blood channeled the blues-rock dynamism of the likes of the White Stripes and the Black Keys, yet they amped up the ferocity and volume with scuzzy riffs and blustering energy. Comprising drummer Ben Thatcher and bassist/vocalist Mike Kerr, the two-piece formed at the beginning of 2013. Although constrained to just two instruments, they made their presence known with pounding drums and heavily distorted bass guitar that drove the melodic intensity of their songs, alongside Kerr’s emotive vocals. Their debut self-titled full-length was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales reaching number one in the U.K. and Ireland. Tours with Iggy Pop and Foo Fighters followed, and in early 2015 Royal Blood won Best British Group at the Brit Awards, receiving their trophy from an admirer, none other than Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. Royal Blood returned in June of 2017 with their sophomore LP, How Did We Get So Dark?

Royal Blood will head to Revolution Live on Monday, June 11.
