This Just In: Gone By The Dawn

Shannon & The Clams’ Dreams In The Rat House was one of my favorite albums of 2013. It lived in my car for months, and I definitely got caught by other drivers multiple times while belting out the songs at stop lights. Their music is the perfect melding of 60’s-style jangle pop/rock and almost-R&B, with warm, lo-fi production, interesting percussion, and legit, “give it all you got” performance. Their new album, Gone By The Dawn, follows up Rat House and delivers those same traits that make Shannon & The Clams so great. And, as with Rat House, Gone By The Dawn gets better (and entices you to sing along more) with every listen. If you hear some loud, off-key weirdo singing funny lyrics at a stop light in the near future, you can bet it’s me jamming out with my clam out (sorry, I absolutely had to make that joke). Take a listen to a track below, and scoop up some titles from this week’s in-stock list! -MLE

Shannon & The Clams – Gone By The Dawn LP
Listen: “Corvette”
“Gone by the Dawn, the newest Shannon and the Clams album, is their best work to date. The music is complex, the lyrical content is emotionally raw and honest, and the production is the strangest it’s ever been. The album was written as one member was recovering from a serious breakup and another was deep in one. The lyrics reflect it, and the entire album is dripping with sadness, pain, and introspection. Gone by the Dawn was recorded at Tiny Telephone in San Francisco and produced by Sonny Smith.” -Hardly Art
