    Sweat’s 2013 Staff Picks

    by Emile

We spend all year buying and selling records – yeah, it’s a good gig. Many of you come into the store and ask what’s worth picking up. Some of you are shy but still nodding your head to what’s on in the background. And amongst the staff, we’re constantly debating and arguing over what to play next. As the year comes to a close, we want to share our Sweat Staff Top 13 of 2013 albums with you, not only in this post, but as the debut Sweat Records Radio Show on Miami’s Klangbox.fm. Yup, read what we loved in 2013 here, and tune in today at 2PM to hear Adames and new staff member Melissa give you a 2-hour sampling of the songs we couldn’t stop listening to in 2013.

    The lists…

    Wolvserpent - Perigaea Antahkarana
…Yeah, yeah, one of these things is reallllly not like the others, but that Disclosure album didn’t leave my car for months.

Honorable mentions:  Givan Lötz – Snarling, Dim Past – Black Dolphin, Giulio Aldinucci – Archipelago, Motél Mari – Eternal Peasant Remixes  (I released all the aforementioned, so I’m biased), Active Child – Rapor EP (this was only a digital release so couldn’t make the official list), Aidan Baker – Already Drowning (it took nearly the entire year to get my hands on a physical copy).

A shit-fuck-ton of incredible reissues/compilations this year too, of Stereolab, Songs:Ohia, Califone, Pelican, Labradford, Saint Etienne, Alice Coltrane, William Onyeabor, Unwound, Rodan and Laraaji. If you’re not on that Laraaji tip yet, take a few days off of life and immerse yourself.

No love for Typhoon’s White Lighter? For shame, Sweaters; most amazing overlooked album of Two Zero One Three.
