This Just In: Dead Tank

We just brought in a haul from Jacksonville label/distributor Dead Tank! They’ve been slingin’ records they love since 2000, and as a label have released a catalog of excellent punk and hardcore titles, mainly from Florida bands. On the distribution side they’ve got way more than just punk and hardcore, and strongly support other Florida-based labels and artists. Their most recent release, a split between Captive Bolt and Gary Francione, is featured below, as well as a couple other Florida-centric releases from their catalog. Don’t forget to check the full list of titles in this week for more from Dead Tank alongside our new releases, reissues and restocks.

Captive Bolt/Gary Francione split 7”:
“A vengeful follow-up to last years ‘Rape, Slaughter, Slavery and Vivisection’ 7”. Jacksonville’s Captive Bolt continue down a lyrical path of vegan and animal rights issues while blasting a hardcore punk sounds with a fresh and modernized reincarnation of Left for Dead. The power of the message here is only brought to the next level since the band teams up with esteemed author Gary Francione – a professor of law and philosophy at Rutgers University. He is a longtime vegan and writes and teaches about animal rights theory and animal law, as well about the relationship between the rights of humans and nonhumans. Gary’s contributions to this release are exclusive and recorded specifically to work thematically with Captive Bolt’s tracks.” You can listen to side B of the 7” here.

Civilization – s/t LP:
“What is it about Florida—or the South in general—that creates such dirge? There seems to be a dirty, swampy edge bands get from down that way. This two-piece guitar and drum combo, out of Jacksonville, Florida lays down some down-tuned aggression. Reminds me of the band Black Cobra with their Sabbath-ish, stoney riffs but with the punk energy of HolyMountain. Brooding, yet with a solid punch of energy at times to keep it interesting. The recording has a live feel to it!” –Donofthedead / Razorcake

Environmental Youth Crunch – Let’s Ride LP:
“St Augustine’s Environmental Youth Crunch digs Woody Guthrie, CCR, swimming, camping, bikes, making their own fuel and beer, all outdoors Florida has to offer, and sings about Florida environmental politics. EYC plays pop punk rock. They talk about ideas important to them between songs-rare around here these days given the swell to embrace the nightlife and not the day we’ve got to navigate too. EYC steers through both fluidly and with purpose. They offer ideas and actions towards something heavy directly affecting us and they do it in their sweaty underwear.”
