This Just In: Noise, Twang & Cult Classics

The weekend’s just around the corner. Need something new to listen to? We’ve got you covered.

Shoppers – Silver Year LP (Highly Recommended!):
“Debut full length from the Syracuse, NY queer noise-punk trio. Matching pop sensibility and form with visceral, manic noise, Silver Year is comprised of new and old from the band’s first year of existence. Re-recorded takes from the Goodbye to all that and You shot me and I woke up in my next life cassettes weave a story alongside newer material.” -Feeble Minds/Drugged Conscience

Carter Family – Bring Back My Blue Eyed Boy To Me LP:
“Drawing on the rich musical tradition of rural Appalachia, by 1930 the Carter family had become an American institution. Often called the ‘first family’ of country music, the original Carter family consisted of A.P. Carter, his wife Sara and Sara’s cousin Maybelle. Maybelle’s daughter June Carter, would go on to become a star in her own right and famously marry Johnny Cash. Maybelle Carter’s pioneering guitar style not only revolutionized American music, but she was also one of the first white musicians to use the guitar as a lead instrument.” –Monk (Italy)

Ennio Morricone – Butterfly OST LP:
“Ennio Morricone’s soundtrack to the 1982 controversial cult thriller Butterfly, based on a novel by James M. Cain (The Postman Always Rings Twice, Double Indemnity). The Morricone score itself is relatively quiet, compared to some of his more nail-biting works, but as always, Morricone is a master of transforming the psychology of the film’s characters into music, which he does here with a subtle art that has made him THE undisputed maestro of film scores. The quality of his work was also recognized with the track ‘It’s Wrong For Me To Love You,’ featuring vocals by Zadora, which were nominated for ‘Best Original Song.’ Thanks in no small part to Pia Zadora’s steamy performance here, both the film and soundtrack have become cult classics.” –Dagored (Italy)
