    This Just In

posted by Matt P (Roofless Rex)

    NEW RELEASES

Davila 666 – Tan Bajo LP

Like its Nuggets-crushing forebears, this Puerto Rican six-piece earns a place on your next house-party playlist with sheer anarchic energy, not to mention a formidable gift for language-transcending hooks. Tan Bajo doubles down on the group’s strengths, delving deeper into screeching sonic chaos while adding an even more memorable batch of songs to shout along with, whether or not you understand the words. – Pitchfork

    Dirtbombs – Party Store 3×12”

The guitars do what guitars do in a garage band: blister, snarl, feed back. And the drums rock the trunk like it’s mandatory. The club kids and the greasers can finally get along. Techno is, by its nature, hauntingly cold. By pumping some blood to its extremities, the Dirtbombs craft a fresh strain of disco soul. This is some filling party music. It gives as much to the D’s dance music heritage as it takes, and merits widespread imitation. – Dusted

Hunx & His Punx – Too Young To Be In Love LP

Hunx (of Gravy Train!!!! fame) rounded up some Punx, traded in club kid chic for 50s/60s greaser swagger but made sure to keep the whole equation super LGBTQ friendly. The end result? Too Young To Be In Love, the queerest garage rock record of 2011.

J Mascis – Several Shades of Why LP

After a decade of cycling through at least a dozen Dinosaur Jr. implosions and reassembly, frontman J. Mascis has finally released his first “official” solo record (apparently those LPs by J. Mascis and The Fog don’t count). The distinction may be rooted in the album’s sonic departure from Mascis’s catalogue up to this point: the axeman has always been known for his fusion of punk ferocity and classic rock chops, and Several Shades of Why is his first foray into intricate acoustic-based music.

Sonic Youth – Simon Werner A Disparu LP

The latest in Sonic Youth’s SYR series, which features experimental odds and ends not quite appropriate for the band’s regular stream of full-length rock albums, but still interesting nonetheless.

    Ty Seagall – Melted LP/CD

San Fran garage-punker (and former one man bander) Ty Segall pens crackling classic-sounding rock’n'roll tunes about as lean and economical as they come, pushing his rangy shoutalong hooks so far forward there’s rarely room for pesky little details like verses. Although he’s thrown quite a few more colors into his instrumental palette in recent years, he’s still mostly working way out in the red, leaving nuance to others. Melted, his latest, boasts a 30-minute runtime that feels closer to 15. Segall gets in, gets out, and gets it done nearly every time. – Pitchfork

Jsin’s Picks for the WMCish Ultra Miami Music Week

    posted by Jsin

I have a crazy week of shows lined up, and I thought I’d share where I’m going in case you want to stalk me. It’s been excellent so far with Miami Horror at Bardot, Jubilee at Bar, and Magda at The Electric Pickle on Tuesday. Last night I saw Nadastrom at the 1111 building and a ton of great Viram acts (Subfocus, Andy C, Datsik) at Treehouse. We keep it rollin’ tonight with a massive dubstep and bass show at Mekka called Smog Vs BassHead.

Fridays at The Vagabond is bringing you the Fixed Miami Freakout tomorrow with a spectacular lineup that includes Azari & III, Blondes, Shit Robot, Villa + secret surprise guests who don’t monkey around when they bring the party!
