This Heart Electric – Polar b/w Nowhere To Run 7”

Nothing sounds sweeter than new vinyl from Miami. We’re thrilled to carry the debut EP from Ricardo Guerrero’s (Animals of the Arctic, hahahelp!, Death To The Sun) This Heart Electric solo project, on Ohio-based label die Stasi (also released the Electric Bunnies/Pink Reason split 7”, not to mention records by Zola Jesus and U.S. Girls). A true single with a bombastic, gloom-synth A-Side (love the howling vocals), and a more subdued, home-taper (Ariel Pink, Dino Felipe, etc) viber on the flip. An essential document from Miami, Florida at the end of the beginning of the new millenium.

After the cut: new records from No Age, David Cross and The Vaselines.

Faces come out of the rain (when you’re strange)

posted by Matt P (Roofless Rex)

Tonight, Saturday August 28th, 10pm, Roofless Records presents the fourth edition of our monthly flagship experimental music showcase, STRANGE DAYS. The name of the game is diversity, and the name of our headliners is actually the names of the individual performers. Alex Diaz (electronics), Eric Lopez-Zareno (saxophone and guitar) and Ed Wilcox (wipeout percussion) are known independently for their work as Xela Zaid, Teepee and Temple of Bon Matin. When the trio gets together they display their incredible prowess for group improvisation as they artfully wander through unpredictable free noise jams with heavy jazz undertones. A rare performance from a true supergroup! Check out this video of Diaz, Lopez-Zareno, & Wilcox at Churchill’s last September.

Making their Miami debut will be The Band In Heaven, a shoegaze duo with a forthcoming split tape with Surfer Blood side-project, Weird Wives (who, by the way, will be performing next Friday at The Guest Lab). Also performing: Peasants With Feathers, Otto Von Schirach‘s voodoo witch doctor playing “space music,” and 5,000 year old hip-hop collective, Dismas Gestas.

Background sound by: King Pubert, DJ Laz and DJ K-Hole, spinning 60s rock, 70s proto/punk, 80s new wave, 90s grunge & indie, Dead Milkmen remixes, local favorites and much more. As always, Bar = no cover / cheap drinks / no hassle.

    Boxed Water Now at Sweat

    posted by Lolo

We’ve all heard about how wasteful and ridiculous bottled water is.  Well, one company has come up with a well-designed and innovative alternative… water in a box!

We’re proud to say that Sweat is the first South Florida location to carry Boxed Water.  It’s just $2 for a quart, the packages are far more eco-friendly than bottles, and the manufacturers even kick back profits to charities that conserve water and fight deforestation.

    From the company:

About 76% of the Boxed Water container is made from a renewable resource, trees, that when harvested in a responsible, managed, and ethical way serve as an amazing renewable resource that benefits the environment even as it’s renewed. We ship our boxes flat to our filler which is significantly more efficient compared to shipping empty plastic or glass bottles to be filled. The flat, unfilled boxes we can fit on 2 pallets, or roughly 5% of a truckload, would require about 5 truckloads for empty plastic or glass bottles. Our cartons can also be broken down to their original flat state, and are recyclable in some areas. We’re also giving 20% of our profits back to the resources our product is composed of – water and trees.

So next time you’re here at Sweat for an in-store, pick up a box, hydrate yourself and feel good about it!

    This Just In

    posted by Lolo

A big stack of musical deliciousness just arrived at Sweat, here’s a taste:

Dubstep heads rejoice!  We’ve got SKREAM‘s brand new album “Outside The Box” as a 4LP box set and the uber-limited edition 2CD set.  Get it while you can.

Looking for something even further outside the box?  Check out world music titles like Si Para Usted: The Funky Beats Of Revolutionary Cuba Vol. 2, or this technicolor compilation of upbeat Thai pop from the ’60s:

Lots of great LP reissues in too, including a personal favorite of mine – PULP‘s 1999 sweeping epic This Is Hardcoreon a gorgeous gatefold 2LP.  Longer list of restocks after the jump but it’s really way more fun to just come by Sweat and flip through the stacks…

“Every Saturday Rap Attack, Mr. Magic, Marley Marl”

    posted by Jsin

If that Biggie lyric is the only thing that comes to mind when you hear the name, MARLEY MARL, we forgive you. Scratch that, we’ll forgive you if you come to (((SHAKE))) this week, and get your hip hop history lesson from the legend himself!

Marley Marl is known as one of the genre’s first superproducers, making tracks for the Juice Crew (Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, Kool G Rap, MC Shan), and is recognized as an early innovator in the art of sampling. Check the resume, do your job, and pay respect to real hip hop this Thursday at The Vagabond.
