    Sweatstock Recap, Pics + Videos!

    posted by Lolo

We know we overuse this word a lot, but SWEATSTOCK WAS AMAZING.  We really couldn’t have dreamed for a better day – the rain held out and some of the most awesome people in Miami showed up for a day of buying records, eating cupcakes and watching great music.

Jsin and I would like to once again thank: Katherine, MJ, Robert, Matt Preira, Sara, Colin + Jared from Morphologic, Renee, Luci, Andrea, Jason, Fezito, Grace, Dez, Daniel and the Casa De Ha-Ha crew, Chuck and Ian at Iron Forge Press, FriendsWithYou, The Vagabond, LiveNation, Yelp, Garvin Media Group, Cielo Catering, PDP Productions for the stage, Aramis, Scratch Academy, Dominic, Andrew, Black Sheep Sound, the New Times, CityLink and everyone who wrote about us, Mayor Regalado, the cops for keeping everyone safe, all the DJs (Hottpants, Patrick Walsh, Panic Bomber, Mr. Pharmacist, Induce, Tom Laroc, DJ Le Spam, Mike Deuce, Juan Basshead + MC Jumanji who had a full-on dubstep rave happening inside the shop at the end of the night), all the insanely talented acts (Black Bobby, Millionyoung, Beings, Animal Tropical, Matt from Pure Imagination, Raffa & Rainer, Rachel Goodrich, Jacuzzi Boys, ANR, Otto Von Schirach/Mr. Feathers/Thug Jesus), Benny, Churchill’s and every who played there afterward,  everyone who showed up, the Knight Foundation for their generous support, and Dean and Randy from NO AGE for being the two realest dudes ever and putting on one of the sickest shows we’ve seen in our whole lives.

You don’t have to keep taking our word for it, check out the links, reviews, photo galleries and videos below to relive the day:

Last but definitely not least, shouts outs from the guys themselves on NO AGE’s blog that got us even more misty and happy to be alive and breathing air and throwing shows for the kids and all that squishyness.

Anyway, thanks again to literally everyone.  This went off so well and we got so much positive feedback that we pretty much have no choice but to do this again in the future.

    Love,
    Lolo + Jsin

    Black Keys WINNER

    posted by Lolo

Congrats to Justin, lucky commenter #50 who just scored himself two tickets to Sunday night’s show with THE BLACK KEYS at the Fillmore! As of this post, tickets are still available here for $27.50 each.  Odds are the show will be ridonculously good, and despite our inevitable Sweatstock hangovers, we’re gonna be there with bells on.

P.S. Bonus props for the most creative comment from Maria: “Oh, Brothers; I would do The Moan for these tickets, but I’ve taken my Magic Potion down by the Rubber Factory in good ol’ Chulahoma. Attack and Release me with your Thickfreakness: This show is going to be The Big Come Up!”  Well done, madam.

    A Word About RSD Merch

    posted by Lolo

So, we adore our customers and want to give y’all a heads up: the Record Store Day people have told us that they drastically underestimated the demand for this year’s RSD exclusives.  We’re already finding out that some things we ordered 15+ copies of, we were only allotted TWO copies out of what was available.  Some announced releases aren’t even coming out, some are UK-only, some bigger-market stores likely get better allotments… It’s been frustrating and in the words of one of our distributors, “a hot mess.”

Anyway, we got what we could, which is a nice chunk of stuff.  Doors open at 10am on Saturday so be there early or you will definitely be left out.  Our BFFs at Radio-Active Records are getting a ton of exclusives as well so we implore you to cross county lines and hit them up too!

On the up side, we ARE one of the 10 stores in North America chosen to carry the uber-exclusive new Surfer Blood/Holiday Shores split 7″, limited to 250 copies worldwide! The A side features Marnie Stern and the B side sees Holiday Shores covering Arthur Russell!

Since 2001 this duo have been peddling their blues-rock around the universe – touring non-stop, recording albums with Dangermouse, winning fans like Robert Plant, QOTSA, Radiohead and others, and most recently putting out the excellent BLAKROC album with a hearty handful of hip hop’s finest.

You know the drill: comment below to enter, we pick a random number and that commenter wins a free pair of tickets!  Thursday at noon we’ll announce the winner right here on the Sweat blog.

Also, check out their funny video for “Strange Times” below, which finds the guys dropping into a kiddie laser tag arena…but with real lasers.

Gregg Foreman’s New Band’s New Jam

    posted by Lolo

[Check out this guest post on more Sweatstock-related music from ANR's John Hancock! -Lo]

When I first moved down here from Maryland and would occasionally step into the vacuum of Miami nightlife, I’d see this really tall dude that looked a whole lot like the lead singer of a band I use to go see back home, The Delta ’72.  Eventually I realized it was him, and have often wondered how many kids in town have listened to this great punk/blues revival band of the 1990′s.

Said dude is one Gregg Foreman, who will be spinning inside at Sweatstock under his DJ moniker of Mr. Pharmacist.  Aside from the notable connection as the keyboardist for Cat Power over more recent years, he has just unleashed the first track from All Saints Day, a duo with Vivian Girls bass player “Kickball” Katy Goodman.  Check out “It’ll Come Around” below, and be sure to come out Saturday night early enough in the day to check out all the great people participating in this free show.
