Knight Arts Challenge 2010 Is Here!

    posted by Lolo

As most of you know by now, Sweat Records is a proud recipient of a 2009 Knight Arts Challenge grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Had we ever applied for a grant before?  Nope. Not once. Ever.

Still, that didn’t stop us from winning a ton of funding that will help Sweat continue for years to come!  So pay attention everyone, because application time is coming around again and it starts this Friday.

The Knight Arts grant is amazing because they really do start with an even playing field.  They are just as happy to fund an indie or solo project as they are to give money to some of Miami’s largest arts organizations.  If you have a great idea that will bring more art, entertainment, education, music, etc. to South Florida, by all means get writing.

The deadline is March 15th – no slacking!

Lovers of art and cocktails!  This Thursday evening I’m happy to be the musical entertainment at the inaugural event for the as-yet-unnamed new young patrons group at Locust Projects.  Locust is a non-profit gallery space that has held incredible exhibits for the last decade, most recently the standing-room-only TM Sisters/Otto/Karelle collaboration “Whirl! Crash! Go!”

There’s a $10 cover that includes libations (do the math, you win) or you can join their group for$75 and enjoy a year’s worth of art and social events, likely involving more cocktails.  It’s this Thursday from 7-9pm and you’ll get to spread out on “An Uneven Floor”Leyden Rodriguez-Casanova‘s current exhibition of wall-to-wall fluffy pink carpeting.

    (((Shake))) The Heartbreak

    posted by Jsin

This isn’t a post about that old Kings of Leon album.  This is a post about the new ALUKARD album, and more specifically it’s Release Party this Thursday.  The boys have been hard at work recording ‘One Shot‘ and they’ll be celebrating it’s birth, on stage at (((SHAKE))) Check out a nice review on Crossfade and download one of the tracks for free!  Our local CORNERSTONERS are opening up with their last show before their Cuba tour.

We are also the Official Afterparty for the Miami New Times Artopia Party.  It’s going down at the Freedom Tower starting at 7, with performances by Otto von Schirach, Afrobeta, BFGF, The Vagabond’s own Carmel Ophir and more.  Anyone coming from there gets free admission to (((SHAKE)))!

Our friend Goobs is helping us get in the Valentine spirit by giving out roses to all the ladies and supplying goodies from Superficial Sweets.  Ladies also pay no cover before midnight.  DJs A-Train, DS, and The Whisper supply the sounds to make you dance.  Guest DJ Ray Milian will be playing a special freestyle set on the patio.  Do your job. (((SHAKE))) The Heartbreak!
