Sweat’s not the only shop in South Florida throwing a party for Record Store Day 2009… The excellent Radio-Active Records is also hosting a get-down at their vinyl-heavy shop in Ft. Lauderdale! It will definitely be worth your while (on today of all days!) to check this place out if you’ve never been. Radio-Active rocks!

11“Cold Sweat” A/C Party 7-9pm!
posted by LoloDear friends,
Tonight is the “Cold Sweat” A/C fundraiser party!
If you’ve been to Sweat in the last several weeks you know that without air it’s crazy hot in here. Add an event with lots of people, and it gets brutal.
So instead of just asking for donations we’ve arranged this raffle so that in addition to feeling good about helping Sweat, you can actually win some wicked prizes! Like…
- a pair of tickets for the Depeche Mode/Peter, Bjorn and John show in September
- a bottle of Belvedere and a table at The Vagabond
- 2 pairs of tickets for the Nine Inch Nails/Jane’s Addiction concert in May
- a FriendsWithYou prize package
- a 3-pack of personal training sessions from Dan “Doormouse” Martin at CrossFit305
- an hour-long massage from Jsin (who was a massage therapist before joining Sweat!)
- 2 dozen Earthcakes vegan cupcakes in the flavor of your choice
It’s 7-9pm tonight and we hope you can make it! We’ll have free food by Cielo Cafe and ice cold beverages.
If you can’t make it you can donate via paypal to info@sweatrecordsmiami.com.
$20 gets 1 entry
$50 gets 3 entries
$100 gets you 7 chances to win!Hope to see you tonight, and then one week from now we’ll be celebrating 4 YEARS of Sweat Records, hopefully in a nice, cool, atmosphere…

7Girl, Have You Heard The ANR Gossip?
posted by LoloFrom the neat-o, free-music-havin’ RCRD LBL site:
“True – Blair Waldorf (i.e. Leighton Meester) plays prim, posh society gal with a cock-teasing mean streak on the hit CWTV show Gossip Girl, but rumor has it that the real Leighton Meester wants to be a singer-songwriter. Does she have pop-diva chops? We’ll let you decide. We’ve included Meester’s sexed-up version of Awesome New Republic‘s dance-pop song “Birthday” as well as the Miami-based band’s original version for comparison. The good news is, either way, “Birthday” is a dance-friendly jam.”
Yes, we are so super indie that we’ve never seen the show, but it’s cool to have a famousy person do your track either way. You can hear the original “Birthday” on ANR’s new EP available ONLY at Sweat, via RCRD LBL, or in my sets at Fridays at The Vagabond. It’s my favorite new jam and has been stuck in my head for weeks!
Heads up: we’ll be doing ANR’s official tour homecoming/album release show at The Vagabond on Friday, May 1st so mark your calendars.
UPDATE: Perez Hilton picked this story up and neglected to mention ANR. They’re from your hometown bro, give some love.
